Rejet, new pipe, upgrade airbox.
I was given the Eee 900HA for Christmas after I received a stern warning from my significant other a month earlier NOT to buy it for myself. In short, this machine will not disappoint those who want a capable machine in a very small package.
I have a Vista laptop and unfortunately many of my video game emulators (MAME, MESS, and SNES) will not work very well…or at all…under that platform. Initially, the sole purpose for buying the Eee was to run those emulators, as they perform better with XP.
Not only do the emulators run beautifully on the Eee, but other functions such as Internet browsing and video messaging perform wonderfully. My 17-inch “gaming” laptop has been sitting on the desk, untouched since I booted up this machine Christmas Eve. It is such a fun little mini-notebook to have, and the performance is better than I expected for a $300 unit.
The display is nice, the speakers are of good quality, and even the touchpad is quite functional despite its diminutive nature. Yes, the keys are small. However, I don’t find them much more difficult to type with than the slightly larger keys found on my 17″ laptop with full-sized keyboard and 10-key pad. In fact, I am composing this entire review on the Eee right now.
The battery life is good; about 3-4 hours depending on the type of usage. Storage space is not a problem with 160 GBs to fill. I could put my entire music library on it, and still not come close to maxing out the hard drive. The Intel Atom processor works smooth enough to handle my emulators without incident. I even have Cool Edit Pro running on the Eee, and it works well too. There’s certainly enough processor power to handle any basic computer/Internet application. Obviously, this machine isn’t designed for hard-core gamers or people who do video editing. I am amazed at how quiet and cool the unit remains, even after an hour of watching YouTube videos.
The portability of the Eee is its biggest selling point. This is a perfect machine for college students who might not have much desk space to work with during class. It is also lighter than most any textbook you will find, so carrying it around campus requires almost no effort.
Buy this machine! I think you’ll fall in love with it, too.
