Maintance and repair are about equal on both machines which is really none. They are both real nice bikes.I like the 440ltd for it`s gas milage and the power will surprise you.Do your normal maintance and it will last forever.
both are nice little bikes both very reliable the choice here is gonna be which one you like due to handling comfort ect. I would choose the newer bike with less mileage. I like the little Honda I call it a softail light!!! lots of ek running around dont see that kawasaki to much anymore.
As others have stated, this is really a choice between styling and engine design. Both are VERY reliable and surely will provide years of trouble free service. Boils down to if you would prefer an inline four cylinder (kaw), or a v-twin (honda). I’m not sure right offhand of when kaw stopped production of the 440 ltd’s, but parts will become more difficult to find as time goes by.
I had the 550 LTD when i was 8 yrs old, it was a fun bike, and HUGE for me at the time….
it ran fine, and the biggest dif between the 550 and the 440 is that the 440 is belt drive…
hondas are bulletproof, too… so it comes down to price, and personal preference…
I’d go with honda, personal opinion.
i had a 454 ltd kawi, it’s carbs were fussy, didn’t like cold starting. right now i’m looking for a cheap bike for my mrs so she’ll quit taking my bike and i think it might be a honda 600…. as long as she doesn’t object, she normally hates japp stuff more than i do
the honda 600 will be a newer bike than the kawi 440, but the kawi 440 has more modern features like belt drive, self cancelling signal lights…. honda can’t understand decent technology, the 600 will have a clunky old chain and lights that will blink for miles (on 1 dash indicator)
back in 91 I had a 440 LTD and it was prob the best bike I ever owned honestly. Tons of parts avaliable, comfortable, front disc brake, fat rear tire with many choices of brands and the seat was super comfty. Easily did a 2 up ride and mpg was really great ( back when it was 89 cents a gallon)
wished I’d never let it go…..
