I have ridden my friends one and it wasnt as powerfull compared to the yz250f. My friends sx250f was pretty new but it backfired a lot and when you accelerate the engine kept cutting out even in the high revs. It looks like an awesome bike but the engine concerned me. If you want a more reliable, durable bike for the same price or less then get a crf 250r or yzf250r. And anyway the sx250f is a mx bike, id say its probably ok for the trails but i dont think it can be street legal and the mileage wouldnt be very good. My friends 08 model cost $12,000 (in New Zealand Dollars) so its probably around $6,000 US.

The SX-F models are not street legal and would do okay on trails. For a trail bike you would need to look at the 250XC-F or XCF-W, but these still aren’t suitable for street use. You would need to move up to the 450 EXC if you want dual purpose capabilities. Still it is more of a dirt bike than a dual purpose. You really cannot have a bike that is good for off road and on road, there will always be a sacrifice on one or the other side of that.
